The audio output from the radio has to be decoded to produce a
picture, signal amplitude equating to levels of black-grey-white and
if an IR picture is being decoded amplitude equates to temperature.
Historically an analog to digital converter interfacing to the
computer, using a COM port, has been the method adopted. With
such a system a very good program, available as shareware, is JVFAX.
Included with the program file is a compehensive .DOC manual as well
as circuit diagrams for constructing a converter/interface.
With the march of multimedia most computers now come equiped with
a sound card, such a card maybe used as the means to feed the audio
signal from the radio into the computer without the need for a special
interface. An excellent program, again available as shareware, is
WXSAT. This program also comes with a good .DOC manual, as well as
providing driving instructions, both documents give descriptions on how
the system works.
These programs together with image viewers and image files are
available from the R.I.G.
